WEINRUB, MATVEY
WEINRUB, MATVEY, Soviet lieutenant general, Hero of the Soviet Union. In World War II, at the battle of Stalingrad,   he commanded the armor of the 62nd army, and his small tank force twice succeeded in preventing the Germans from reaching the Volga. Weinrub was promoted to major general with command of the armored division of the 8th guards army which recaptured the Donets coalfield and Odessa and advanced to Berlin.
